So I decided to spend some time in writing this concluding article talking about the features of different materials, comparing their advantages and disadvantages, with in intention to help beginners easily pick out the most suitable fabric they should go with.

Cotton pouch

Cotton pouch, 100% made from organic cotton, is very popular to used in apparel and jewelry packaging. Many famous brands, such as jewelry brands like APM, apparel brands like Louis Vuit ton, Dior, are using cotton pouch in their packaging. The natural and breathable yarns structure makes it super suitable for packaging. First of all, cotton pouch is more durable than other fabric pouch. Pilling is never a problem in cotton pouch because cotton will shed it in washing. Secondly, cotton fabric is anti-static. Cotton is never the culprit because it can’t hold an electric charge so customer won’t get cotton clinging. Thirdly, cotton pouch rarely causes allergic reactions so it is a safe choice among various fabric. Lastly, any kind of logo, heat transfer, iron on, and screen print can be done easily on a cotton pouch’s surface because the cotton material is resistant to over 350 Fahrenheit. If we must pick up a disadvantage of cotton pouch, I should say it is expensive compare to artificial fabric like velvet and satin. But generally it is the top one option I would suggest to everybody.

Canvas pouch

Canvas pouch is similar with cotton pouch and enjoys all the features of it . But canvas pouch is sturdier because canvas fabric is intensively weaved, thus it can carry heavier stuffs. The reason why denim brands and sports brands prefer canvas pouch is usually because canvas has a casual chic feeling and a more rugged texture that matching the brands concept and philosophy. However, when it comes to the topic of environmental friendly subject, canvas pouch is not as popular as cotton pouch because canvas is usually made of cotton or linen, along with polyvinyl chloride (PVC). Its production has an impact on the environment.

Velvet pouch

When it comes to velvet pouch, the most outstanding feature should be the luxury feeling conveyed from its strong sheen and sensuous touching. Many jewelry brands adore velvet packaging. For example, Tiffany, Car tier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Mikimoto, Her mes are using either jewelry pouch or velvet covered box in their packaging. However, one remind should be kept during decision making, that is the world “velvet” actually can be very different among different fabric composition. Satin pouch

Satin pouch is most suitable for swimming wear, intimate underwear, glasses packaging. A typical example is Gucci, its shoes dust bag, handbag cover bag, and glasses bag, are all made of satin fabric. Super soft, light, and shinny. Similar to velvet pouch, satin pouch’s quality and price can be very different because the silk fiber percentage in satin fabric determines all the bag’s external features.

Suede pouch in leather pouch

Leather pouch material can be diversified: real leather including cow leather, horse leather, suede, and artificial leather. Among all of them, pouches made of suede are the most favourable choice. Suede fabric is made of underside skin of lamb or goat, so it is much softer then normal leather with a shaggy nap. Among popular brands, Tiffany is additive to its mint green suede jewelry pouch and has been using it for more than ten years. Suede fabric pouch is environmental friendly because no harmful additive needs to be added in the leather production, but on the other hand, it is not durable compare with pouches made of other materials.

Microfiber pouch

If customer likes the suede leather pouch features, microfiber pouch can be an ideal substitute. There is one type of microfiber called Ultrasuede, a synthetic ultra-microfiber fabric invented in 1970. It feels like genuine suede but is more tough and resistant to stains and discoloration. Organza pouch

Organza pouch is mainly used as gift pouch. You can find it containing candies, chocolate on ceremony, or cosmetics in a gift pack or even free gifts in a roadshow, but unlikely to find it in garment or jewelry brands packaging. That is because organza fabric lights as air, lacking of any luxurious or durable or natural feature that branders want to make advantage of. In actual production, printing or embroidery logo on organza fabric is time-consuming because the slippery surface can shift and destroy the printing.
